Spend the day photographing food and culture in one of the most beautiful cities in North America. The heart of the food movement in San Francisco is the Saturday morning market at the Ferry Plaza. The city's energy and creativity come alive at this market, which features some of the best food scenes in the country. In the afternoon, wander through San Francisco's oldest streets photographing Chinatown's vivid street culture.

Capture the early morning light at one of the country’s best markets. The bustling scene provides countless opportunities to shoot the San Francisco food scene at its best, whether that be local merchants, abundant produce, or shoppers browsing for their weekly ingredients. In the afternoon, we'll take our cameras to the oldest streets in San Francisco. Walk through the narrow streets peering into noodle shops, gathering places in alleyways, and local dumpling stalls, photographing the unique energy of this city's most historic neighborhood. 

In the evening we'll hole up in the private room of a local restaurant editing photos and discussing photography over food. Each student will have a chance to talk about their photographic process. This will be a time to ask questions, look at images and celebrate the process of making pictures. (meal not included in workshop fee)

Price includes workshop fees only, does not include hotel, meal or transportation

All Participants must have a digital SLR camera, laptop computer, and appropriate software for editing and presenting images.

About Penny:

Penny is a senior contributing photographer for Saveur Magazine, a contributing photographer for National Geographic Magazine. Her work has also appeared in Martha Stewart Living, Newsweek, Time Magazine and Texas Monthly. She has received awards from the World Press Photo Competition, NPPA Pictures of the Year, California Press Photographers Association, and International Center of Photography.  Penny has a Masters in Visual Communication from Ohio University.
